NOTE: This is an unofficial releaseI just jailbroke my iPod Touch 1st Generation with the firmware 2.2.1 update thanks to Vortex, a Russian hacker for creating the bundles for the firmware 2.2.1 update. You can jailbreak firmware 2.2.1 for your iPhone, iPhone 3G, and iPod Touch 1st Generation now. A lot of people are anxiously awaiting this jailbreak but you must realize that it's beta and it won't be worth it jailbreaking yet.
IPhone 3G users, do not update to firmware 2.2.1 if you want to keep your unlock because firmware 2.2.1 will update your baseband permanently. You will need to download custom firmware with an earlier baseband in order to use jailbreak.Firmware 2.2.1 download links. Arg, I need some help with the jailbreaking my ipod with 2.2.1, I have the latest version of QuickPWN and I think I do i'm doing it right. I always get to the part where it tells me to hold the home button and all that, then when I get to one second left of holding only the home for 30 seconds a message pops up saying something along the lines of Your ipod was not connected properly or you did not follow the instrucsions correctly ( But I did both of them).

I have one other question. Do I need a speacial Firmware or whatever that I have to browse for when it tells me to or can I just use the one the that shows up automaticaly?Thanks so much, Eliwh. For those of you having trouble getting passed the apple icon on your iPhone when running quickpwn I might have found a way to complete the bootup with the jailbreak. With the iPhone connected to my pc and the boot running, I loaded iTunes (which of course was frozen) and the started up quickpwn again.
That seemed to have pushed it through and iTunes loaded up with the sync screen. Then the iPhone was jailbroken and running fine. Not sure if this was the solution but it worked for me, give it a try if you want.
I tried to upgrade my iPhone 3g from 2.2 to 2.2.1 as per the instructions. It went through the usual QuickPWN installation process, chose the 2.2.1 firmware downloaded from here, and the QuickPWN reported everything upgraded correctly. But when I check the firmware on the iPhone, it still says 2.2 (5G77) as if nothing happened. Itune reports the same. I repeated the process again with another downloaded version of the 2.2.1 firmware, but the same thing happened.Anyone have success upgrading to 2.2.1 with an iPhone 3G and this quickPWN pre-release? This is for people stuck on 2.2.1.if your wanting to downgrade you must first download the original 2.2plug iphone into computer and restore to 2.2 (not custom: this will not work and error comes up) to do this you must press alt with mac then restore and choose 2.2 file, for pc im sure its shift and clickrestore and same applys, use apples 2.2once done, download quckpwn 2.2 or pwnage tool 2.0.3, i recomend pwnage as quickpwn didnt unlock the iphone, reason im not sure.there you go. Now you can wait for big fix's on jailbreak 2.2.1yes this works for 3g tooif your computer dosnt reconise your iphone/ipod manually put into dfu mode(turn off phone - hold home and power on).
IPhone Dev team was delaying the release of tool for jailbreak of iPhone 3GS running on iPhone 3.0 firmware but another team called Geohot has released a tool already which is called and its going to.Its what many new iPhone users were waiting for and this unexpected release would bring in many tries from users, though its a tool released for only windows right now.
